Brief + work

Working alongside the IDEO U team and University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy, Community x Design helped architect, design, and lead a weeklong executive education retreat in November 2016 for 22 senior-level executives from companies including GE, Nike, HSBC, Scotiabank, UBS, and many more Fortune 500 companies.

We spent 4 months planning and prepping content, selecting and interviewing Fellows, securing instructors from IDEO (including Tim Brown, CEO) and designing the learning architecture for the week-long course and for post-engagement. The IDEO U Impact House was such a success that we are looking at making this an institutional partnership across both organizations.

What we learned

Our prototype of an offline experience between a university and an online course platform was successful on many different levels. We tested new content, laid the groundwork for a new executive-level degree program, and built an incredible community of senior-level executives who are continuing to build innovative programs and offerings together after the week-long course together.
